Ho’i Hou Ke Aloha (Let us fall in love all over again)! The theme of this month’s Date Night In box from Night In Boxes was the “romantic Aloha Spirit of Hawaii”. It was packed with Hawaiian fun and adventures…and it arrived at the perfect time! We had just returned from our trip from the Big Island less than a month before!
Having just visited the island and having seen first hand via helicopter ride the devastation caused by the erupting Kilauea Volcano, I love that, “a portion of the proceeds from each Date Night Box purchased in the month of June was donated to the Hawaii Community Foundation’s Hawaii Island Recovery Fund.”
We started our night by tuning into the Spotify playlist and lighting the Northern Lights Plum Orchid & Dalhia candle. Then, we headed to the kitchen to mix our Coconut Mojito and Margarita drinks (we should have skipped the Coconut Mojito, neither of us like coconut).
Once we had our drinks ready, we grabbed our Sweet Maui Onion Hawaiian Kettle Style Potato Chips (which were really tasty!) and headed back to the couch to learn a little of the Hawaiian language and to play Lei It On Me.
Lei It On Me was a fun game that reminded me a bit of the old Newlyweds Game that used to be on TV, only we got to choose the rewards! We each drew cards, filled in the blanks privately with our answers, and wrote down a creative action for the other one to do if they didn’t guess our answer correctly.
We came up with some fun and creative “rewards”…most of which we had to pay up on because there was only one correct answer during the game. Luckily, I was the one that got it right and I didn’t have to wash his car!
The night concluded with a fun, popular Hawaiian game of Konane, some hula dancing lessons, and an Aloha Bingo game. Our favorite was definitely the Konane game, which is a bit like checkers. We’re pretty competitive with each other when it comes to games, so we had fun with this one…just wish we had it to play with everyone while we were in Hawaii!
We definitely had some laughs with the hula dancing, but decided we wouldn’t win any competitions with our skills, or lack there of!
We ended our night with the Aloha Bingo game. We were a little confused by this activity. Either we received two of the same Aloha Bingo cards and we should have received different ones, or the concept fell a bit short since with the same exact cards, we were marking off the same exact boxes at the same time.
All-in-all, my husband and I agreed that this was a really nice date night and, while it may not have been our favorite Date Night In box we’ve reviewed, it was definitely one our favorites. We really enjoyed the games, the snack, and how well the activities blended together.
